Okay LA
Oh hello!
It’s been five years between videos and 15 years since we first filmed a band for Large Noises.
After several musicians have told us that they miss blogs like Large Noises existing in the music ecosystem, we decided it was time to return, if only for a quick hello!
Surf coast sibling duo Wild Honey (Lucy and younger brother Daniel) have been singing together since they first met (as babies). The brand new duo (who are no longer babies) released one song and were immediately booked to perform four sets at Queenscliff Music Festival in Victoria this weekend.
The duo write beautifully catchy indie pop songs about growing up and exploring the world together and as individuals. This song ‘Okay LA’ was written about leaving the city life and slowing down to return to the coast. Their voices harmonise and intertwine in ways only people who have been singing together their whole lives can weave.
The philosophical early 20-somethings have learnt to turn away from the bright lights, egotism, chaos, hustle and appreciate the simple things in life – being present, nature, the fun and sometimes mundane precious parts of life. Lucy references ‘doing the dishes’ and ‘cleaning the living room’. The real world stuff. The moments when you have profound realisations.
It has been an absolute joy being alongside Wild Honey on their early musical journey and capturing their new single ‘Okay LA’ stripped back and live at Dare Studios.
Lucy said the song first came to her when she was visiting Venice Beach, staring at the sunburnt beach and realising that being in LA wasn’t what she truly wanted at all. It wasn’t the bright lights she was seeking afterall.
We started out voluntarily filming bands because we wanted to offer something to the local music community and fans around the world. We built this website based on community, collaboration, fun and above all else – how much we love music.
While everyone has moved in various directions, between us we have become musicians, advocates, filmmakers, artist managers, producers and collectively we have toured the world and seen the bright lights Wild Honey speak of.
It’s funny how we find ourselves right back here 15 years later – embracing the simplicity of what we love most – live music, lyrics, capturing moments.
I know I deeply relate to Okay LA.
“Can’t stay in your world know it’s moving too fast for my small-town soul.”
This marks the beginning of a musical chapter for Wild Honey, where they start to share their music with the world and the world connects.
This post can be a reminder that musicians can remain considered and thoughtful in their approach, even when there will be so many fans around the world waiting to encounter Wild Honey…
We know… because we’ve heard the demos.
